In November 2017, we flew to Auckland to undertake a 4 month bicycle tour around both the North and South Islands of New Zealand. Starting on the North Island just south of Auckland, we headed south along the eastern coasts of both islands all the way to Invercargill, before heading back up the western coast of the south island. Once we are done pedaling the south island, we will spend the rest of our time traveling to other places that we didn't get to on our bike tour.

To prepare for our upcoming New Zealand tour, we decided to take a 6 day tour through the Colorado high country. This tour was to take us through Leadville, Aspen, Glenwood Springs, and Vail. Although we had to end the tour early due to a snowstorm, the views along the way were spectacular.

This year we added an item to our "bucket list" - to visit all 59 of the US National Parks. In September, we took a road trip to see these three amazing parks. Although the weather was a mix of summer, fall and winter all within the space of a couple of weeks, we saw lots of beautiful scenery and wildlife on this trip. I was reminded that the national parks are really a wonderful treasure.

To celebrate my parents' 50th wedding anniversary, we took a family cruise to Alaska. A cruise is a great way to travel with a large family group people of different ages and different interests. It allows everyone the opportunity to connect and spend time while also allowing everyone time to pursue those activities which interest them most. We started our cruise in Seattle and stopped in Juneau, Sitka and Ketchikan and also went to Glacier Bay National Park.

In January 2017, we set off from Colorado to drive to Cabo San Lucas down the Baja peninsula in our trustee Subaru with our dog, Cisco, in tow. Our plans in Cabo involve working on finishing (OK, mostly supervising) a stalled renovation on a condo that my parents purchased, exploring the area, finding some good cycling routes, and also doing some traveling around Baja California Sur.
Below is the map of our route down to the tip of the Baja peninsula and back.

Detail route information for this tour
In May 2016 we flew from Denver, Colorado to Frankfurt, Germany. From there, we took three different trains to Aachen, Germany which is close to the border with Belgium. From Aachen, we picked up the EuroVelo route 3 which took us down through Paris to Orleans, France. There we picked up the EuroVelo route 6 which runs along the Loire, the Saone and the Doubs rivers in France, then passes through Switzerland, and Germany where it joins up with the Danube river and runs through Austria, Slovakia, Hungary, Serbia and Romania. When we reached Belgrade, Serbia we decided to stay there and rest for about a week and a half. Then we decided to head to Croatia instead of continuing on to Romania.
We cycled around the Istria peninsula in Croatia and made our way down to Split. After storing our bicycles in Split, we spent 2 weeks visiting Dubrovnik and several of the islands off the coast of Croatia then headed inland to visit Krka and Plitvice National Parks before spending a few days in Zagreb. At the end of October, we made our way back to Frankfurt by train and caught a flight back home.
Below is the map of the biking portion of our tour.
